In this paper we discuss Gabbay's idea of basing nonmonotonic deduction on semantic consequence in intuitionistic logic extended by a consistency operator and Turner's suggestion of replacing the intuitionistic base system by Kleene's three-valued logic. It is shown that a certain counterintuitive feature of these approaches can be avoided by using Nelson's constructive logic N instead of intuitionistic logic or Kleene's system. Moreover, in N a more general notion of consistency can be defined and nonmonotonic deduction can thus be based (...) on a logical system satisfying the Deduction Theorem. (shrink)

The following proposal explores and discusses the potential of Cartography as a methodological path in the development of research in Mathematics Education aimed at working with different groups that, in many cases, in addition to finding themselves in various situations of vulnerability and social neglect – taken in their potentiality of life –, are not necessarily linked to formal or informal academic training spaces, such as schools or universities. To this end, we begin with a general presentation of the doctoral (...) research carried out by five members of the research group Coletivo Cronopies+ (cronopiando.org) and, in addition, we invite the participants of the session to visit the first Hip Hop House in Brazil in Diadema/SP, which constitutes one of the settings that make up the fieldwork of one of the research projects presented. The research we share involves working with a Hip Hop cultural center in Piracicaba/São Paulo (SP), a Guarani-Kaiowá indigenous village in Coronel Sapucaia/Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), a traveling school in a Landless Workers’ Movement camp in Porecatu/Paraná (PR), a rural settlement school in Nova União/Rondônia (RO) and three collectives that operate with gender in the region of Rio Claro/SP. The construction of this proposal is methodologically based on Cartography, since the discussion aims to produce the field of this research and we propose “fieldwork”. (shrink)

This journey shall provide the reader with a simple, though complete, guide to Leibniz’s metaphysics, incidentally preventing him or her from common errors. I will start with unfolding Leibniz’s definition of a simple substance as a free acting individual substance, which, in doing so, constitutes its complete concept. This latter contains everything that happens to the individual substance, a process taking place in God’s mind by forming the possibilities as combinations of his attributes before his decision to create the best (...) world. The totality of possibilities is divided through the compatibility relation into possible worlds. A world is a collection of all compatible individual substances. God creates the best among all possible worlds. The journey will enlighten the reader on Leibniz’s technical distinction between “possible” and “contingent”. In short, “possible” is defined by Leibniz in logical terms, as what is contradiction-free. “Contingent” is something that is, but might have been not. Just the fact that the non-being of contingent things remains possible saves Leibniz from Descartes’ and Spinoza’s determinism. (shrink)

Este ensayo se propone reconstruir la teoría aristotélica del tiempo en ocho pasos, a saber: 1. La movilidad como principal característica del ente; 2. la vida como praxis esencialmente vinculada al habla; 3. la relación expresa entre tiempo y experiencia del movimiento; 4. historia y movimiento natural, en el que se discute la relación y la diferencia entre éstos y el tiempo; 5. se busca mostrar cómo se genera propiamente el tiempo, recogiendo lo pensado en los pasos anteriores; 6. se (...) destaca la posibilidad lingüística de decir “ahora” como momento esencial de la comprensión de la generación del tiempo; 7 se intenta tematizar la relación que Aristóteles establece entre tiempo y número, y, por último; 8. la relación entre pasado y Tiempo. La premiere evaluation d'ensemble du postkantisme et des grands systemes idealistes qu'il y propose determine encore l'image que nous pouvons nous faire de la philosophie classique allemande. La querelle qu'elle a declenchee et la reponse outranciere que lui a apportee Schelling, blesse par la critique du naturalisme que developpe la deuxieme partie de l'ouvrage, en font le document le plus precieux dont nous (...) disposions pour interpreter les debats qui, durant les premieres decennies du XIXe siecle, ont mis aux prises la philosophie de la religion et la theologie speculative. La discussion des rapports du realisme et de l'idealisme religieux, de la revelation de la raison et de la doctrine positive que Jacobi developpe d'abord en reponse a Matthias Claudius, puis lors d'un dialogue avec Friedrich Schlegel, non seulement eclaire cette lecture de l'histoire de la philosophie a l'heure de l'avenement du nihilisme, mais permet aussi de comprendre ce que l'auteur entend par ce vrai rationalisme qu'il oppose aux philosophes de son temps. Elle donne ainsi a celui qui fut l'un des peres de l'idealisme allemand en meme temps que son critique le plus acerbe l'occasion de preciser une derniere fois les rapports de la raison et de l'entendement, question qu'avec Kant, il fut l'un des premiers a poser a la pensee moderne. Bei Gilles Deleuze findet man einen der seltenen Ansätze zu einem genuin philosophischen Verständnis der Linie. Er versucht eine Emanzipation der Linie nicht nur aus der Geometrie, sondern auch aus der Dominanz des Raumes. Die wichtigsten Motive, die ihn dabei leiten, hat er in dem Konzept der Fluchtlinie gebündelt. Dessen potentiell metaphorischer Status wird ebenso befragt wie seine Aussagekraft für das deleuzianische Verständnis von Philosophie überhaupt. The work of Gilles Deleuze is one of the rare cases in which a genuinely (...) philosophical understanding of the line is attempted. He not only tries to dissociate the line from geometry, but also to free it from the dominance of space. The most important motives behind his thinking about the line converge in the concept of the ›ligne de fuite‹. The text examines the potentially metaphorical status of this notion, as well as its significance for Deleuze’s view of philosophy in general. (shrink)

Nietzsche and Medicine. Especially in times of a pandemic, dealing with terms such as health, illness, healing and medicine is of particular interest. Three recently published books are devoted to the problem of medicine in Nietzsche’s work. In addition to impulses for contemporary medical-ethical debates, this review articles discusses Nietzsche’s relationship to the ancient philosophy of medical self-care, the concepts of suffering, illness and health as well as the influence of the contemporary natural sciences on Nietzsche’s understanding of medicine. Nietzsche’s (...) view of medicine has already been the subject of several other recent publications: in addition to the publications that deal directly with Nietzsche’s understanding of medicine, I will also discuss those focused on the effect of Nietzsche’s scientific reading on his work as well as publications on the topics of illness and health and on the role of ancient dietetics, therapeutics and self-care within Nietzsche’s thinking. La reflexión que se dirige a la conciencia como el ámbito donde acaece el conocimiento tiene su inicio en la modernidad. La conciencia se realiza en su plenitud como autoconciencia, la cual también es deseo e impulso hacia el objeto conocido. La conciencia sólo se descubre a sí misma mediante la reflexión, esto es, mediante el retorno a sí a partir de la objetividad. En este retorno a sí misma la autoconciencia descubre la dinámica de la vida misma como proceso (...) infinito de diferenciaciones. El deseo se dirige a lo viviente, a su semejante y se confronta con él en una “lucha de vida o muerte”. Esta relación de la conciencia con el objeto también tiene lugar en la historia, en las relaciones entre el amo y el esclavo. Así mismo ella determina el sentido del trabajo: la autocomprensión de la conciencia llega a ser posible en cuanto ella es capaz de acceder al sentido de lo extraño. (shrink)

The purpose of this article is to illustrate the role of sociology in the field of corporate social responsibility. It presents a case study conducted by a research group consisting of two University partners in association with a Swiss SME. This project attempted to draw conclusions from a specific sociological consultancy research project on the general possibilities and opportunities of sociology in applied research and operational sustainability consulting. On the basis of the project findings, the article reflects on the extent (...) to which sociology could profitably intervene, on the limitations for sociological research and consultations in this field and on the conclusions that can be drawn for future analyses.
